VO2max Calculator for Rowing
Estimate your VO2max from a 2K erg test. Uses the Concept2/Hagerman formula with ACSM fitness classification.
How VO2max estimation from rowing works
VO2max (maximal oxygen uptake) is the gold standard measure of cardiovascular fitness. Lab testing is the most accurate method, but your 2K erg score provides a strong estimate because rowing is a full-body exercise that closely correlates with maximal aerobic capacity.
The formula: We first convert your 2K time to average watts using the Concept2 power formula, then apply the validated regression: VO2 (ml/min) = Watts × 12.9 + 382. Dividing by body weight gives the relative VO2max in ml/kg/min.
Fitness classifications follow ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) norms. Note that this estimate assumes a true max-effort 2K test.
Use our zone calculator to train at the right intensity for improving your VO2max.
