Why the PM5 calories may be wrong for you

The Concept2 PM5 calculates calories using a formula calibrated for a 175 lb (79.4 kg) person. If you weigh more, you're actually burning more calories than shown. If you weigh less, you're burning fewer.

PM5 formula: Cal/hr = (Watts × 4) + 300
Weight-adjusted: Cal/hr = (Watts × 4) + (Weight in lbs × 1.714)

The 300 in the PM5 formula represents the estimated resting metabolic rate for a 175 lb person (175 × 1.714 ≈ 300). The weight-adjusted formula simply replaces this with your actual metabolic contribution.
